Trinidad murder rate climbing to 500

(Trinidad Express) Two men were shot and killed overnight in separate incidents in south Trinidad.

The victims were identified as Narrad Bhagaloo of St Margarets, and Akil Sylvester, of Ste Madeleine.

In the first incident, Bhagaloo was found gunned down in his home at Teak Drive.

Around 8.15 p.m. he was at home with family when two armed with firearm stormed into the house.

They went to his bedroom and opened fire, then ran out of the house.

Relatives ran into the room and found Bhagaloo was shot multiple times in the head and upper body.

Officers of the St Margaret’s Police Station and Homicide Region III responded.

In the second incident, Sylvester was a passenger in a vehicle when he and the driver were attacked.

Sylvester of Midas Extension, Corinth Hills, was in a car driven by Daniel Josiah, 30, of Bernard Street, Mon Repos.

Police said Josiah was driving the vehicle along Railway Line Road, Ste Madeline around 1.30 a.m.

Sylvester was in the front passenger’s seat.

The gunman jumped in front of the vehicle and opened fire.

Josiah was shot to the buttocks and Sylvester to the abdomen and upper torso.

Josiah drove to the San Fernando General Hospital.

Sylvester died while receiving treatment.

Josiah is warded in serious condition.

The killings took the murder toll to 493 according to an Express tally.
