Trinidad: Two men charged with kidnapping of UWI employee

(Trinidad Guardian) Two men will ap­pear be­fore a Port-of-Spain Mag­is­trate on Mon­day, charged with kid­nap­ping UWI em­ploy­ee Maria Dass-Su­per­sad.

Al­though Dass-Su­per­sad, 26, was kid­napped on No­vem­ber 28 the charges were on­ly brought against Ri­car­do Fe­lix and Keon Phillips on De­cem­ber 7 fol­low­ing in­struc­tions from the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions, Roger Gas­pard, SC.

A re­lease by the TTPS con­firmed the men had been joint­ly charged with kid­nap­ping for a ran­som and pos­ses­sion of a firearm and am­mu­ni­tion.

Fe­lix is a 21-year-old labour­er of Sad­dle Road, Mar­aval, while Phillips is a 35-year-old plumber of Clarence Trace, Va­len­cia.

The charges were laid by Sgt Thomas of the St Joseph Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment.

Dass-Su­per­sad was res­cued by po­lice five hours af­ter two men forced her in­to a car as she was leav­ing the Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies St Au­gus­tine Cam­pus.

She was found un­harmed in a car dri­ven by her kid­nap­pers along the Cau­ra Road around 8.30 pm on No­vem­ber 28.

When the kid­nap­pers were held, one was found wear­ing a po­lice bul­let­proof vest while the oth­er was in cam­ou­flage wear.
