Trinidad: Sex Island to take place on neighbouring Venezuelan island – Margarita

A screen grab from the promotional video being used for the Sex Island event. Reports out of the UK yesterday revealed the event is being held in neighbouring Venezuela and not Trinidad and Tobago this weekend.

(Trinidad Guardian) The now highly publicised “Sex Island” fete is not apparently taking place this weekend in Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) as previously advertised and reported, but on a neighbouring Venezuelan island – Isla Margarita.

However, law enforcement agencies are not letting their guards down despite this latest information reported in the United Kingdom media yesterday.

A senior officer of the T&T Coast Guard has assured Guardian Media that coastal patrols will “still be heightened around T&T’s coast, especially off the western peninsula,” as the T&T authorities “are taking no chances.”

In the midst of trying to get pertinent information on the location and the organisers behind the party, Commissioner of Police (CoP) Gary Griffith still found humour.

“I feel the media trying to get ‘complis’ (referring to complimentary tickets),” Griffith said.

“I have never seen media contact me so often on any matter,” he added with a hearty laugh.

Yesterday in the UK, an article in The Sun stated that the party would be taking place from today to Sunday on a private luxury beach resort in Venezuela on the Isla Margarita and not T&T after all.

Isla Margarita is said to be a popular tourist resort island off the north-eastern coast of Venezuela – where prostitution is legal. According to the article, the prices for the “deluxe sea view” apartment shown in Sex Island’s brochures start at £145 per night.

Earlier yesterday, before the article began circulating, Griffith, via a release issued by the T&T Police Service (TTPS) corporate communications unit, had pleaded for citizens who had information on where the party was being held in T&T to contact him.

“Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith is asking any law-abiding citizen, who may have information regarding the location, date and time of the highly publicised party involving prostitutes and drugs; to come forward with information,” the release stated.

When asked if there was any breakthrough following the release, Griffith, again laughing, replied: “Why would I reveal what I am doing to prevent it from taking place? It is like asking me what are we doing to release a hostage whilst kidnapped.”

Persons with credible information are still being asked to directly contact Griffith via texts on his direct number 482-GARY (4279) in the party, by chance, is indeed being held here as previously advertised.
