Painter charged with shooting at man after chain dispute

An East La Penitence painter was on Friday charged with shooting at a man, who had accused him of selling him a fake chain.

It is alleged that Ronaldo Gonsalves on October 14th, 2017, at South Sophia, discharged a loaded firearm at Casey Chapman with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Gonsalves pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman in Georgetown.

The prosecutor stated that Gonsalves and the complainant are known to each other. The court heard that in April of 2017, Chapman purchased a chain from Gonsalves but later found out it was a fake. After Chapman told Gonsalves that the chain he bought from him was fake, Gonsalves and another person allegedly approached him and discharged a round at him. Fortunately, he was not injured. The firearm was not recovered.

Magistrate Latchman subsequently granted Gonsalves his release on $180,000 bail and adjourned the matter until February 9th.
