Cumberland hire car driver gets $200,000 bail on ganja charge

 

A Cumberland Village, East Canje Berbice hire car driver was placed on $200,000 bail on Monday after he appeared at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court to answer to a charge of possession of narcotics.

Sohil Nabbi, also known as ‘Safraz’, 23, of Lot 54 Burn Bush Dam, Cumberland Village, East Canje pleaded not guilty to a possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking charge.

The Canje hire car driver, who appeared before Magistrate Alex Moore was then placed on $200,000 bail.

He will return to the Weldaad Magistrate’s Court on February 22.

Nabbi was allegedly discovered with a trunk load of compressed marijuana, that is to say some 13, 800 grammes early Saturday evening in Weldaad, West Coast Berbice

According to information gathered, Nabbi while driving HB 9274 was noticed turning into a cross street nearby the Weldaad Police Station, after he had observed patrol ranks were conducting a stop and search.

After noticing Nabbi’s car, police on the mobile patrol then chased after him and placed him under arrest.

A search was conducted on his car during which two black garbage bags filled with a total of sixteen bags of cannabis were allegedly discovered in the car trunk.
