Labourer charged with murdering drinking buddy

Owin Accra, the labourer who is accused of fatally stabbing his drinking buddy after a row on Sunday, was yesterday charged with murder and remanded to prison.

It is alleged on February 11th, 2018, at Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, Accra murdered Nair Khan.

Accra was not required to plead to the indictable charge when he appeared before Magistrate Rushell Liverpool at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.

The matter was adjourned until April 1st.

Accra is accused of stabbing Khan during an argument around 10 pm on Sunday.

Khan, called ‘Tarzan,’ 29, of Bud Street, Line Top, Vergenoegen, was discovered lying in a pool of blood around 6 am last Monday with a gaping wound to his left hand.

His body was found about 110 yards away from the suspect’s Burn Street, Vergenoegen home, where the stabbing occurred.

Accra, who had fled the scene, surrendered to the police at the Leonora Police Station on Tuesday afternoon in the company of his mother.

The police, in a press release, had said that their investigation revealed that Khan and the suspect were drinking at the latter’s house when an argument erupted.

The police said the argument stemmed from the accusation that Khan was having a relationship with the suspect’s wife.

“The argument reportedly escalated and the suspect allegedly stabbed [Khan] who fled the scene, leaving a trail of blood,” the police had added.
