Bush Lot labourer hospitalised after being struck by hire car

A Bush Lot, Corentyne, Berbice labourer was hospitalised in a serious condition yesterday afternoon after he was struck by a Toyota Fielder Wagon while returning home on his bicycle.
Deodat Bissember, also known as ‘Bully,’ 40, of Lot 59 Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital in an unconscious state after he was struck on the Kildonan Village Public Road by the hire car, who was allegedly travelling at a fast rate.
Stabroek News was told that the labourer was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
According to Bissember’s relatives, he regained consciousness at the hospital last evening, after which he was transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he has since been admitted.
Bissember’s relatives further related that he was hanging out in Kildonan Village, Corentyne and then suddenly decided to head home sometime after 12. He reportedly hopped onto his bicycle and was proceeding home when he was struck.
Meanwhile, the driver of the hire car was taken into custody yesterday afternoon.
