A 65-year-old woman, who allegedly told police that she sells ganja to pay her bills, was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge that she was found with a quantity of cannabis for trafficking at her home.
It alleged that on February 15th, at Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden, Bernadette Robertson had 94.2 grammes of cannabis in her possession for trafficking.
Robertson pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to her by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown.
The prosecutor, who objected to bail being granted, stated that the police, acting on information received, went to the woman’s home and conducted a search. During the search, the court heard, she allegedly admitted to a Constable that narcotics were in her home and then subsequently took him to the cannabis. She is alleged to have then given an oral statement to the constable, in which she admitted, “I sell weed to pay my bills.”
Although Robertson’s attorney stated that the woman indicated to police that she knew nothing about the substance that was found at her home, Chief Magistrate McLennan denied bail
Also appearing before the Chief Magistrate was Bernadette Robertson’s son, Coburn Robertson, 25, who was granted $75,000 bail on a charge of the possession of 14 grammes of cannabis.
The charge against him stated that on the 15th of February, at Blueberry Hill, he had 14.2 grammes of cannabis in his possession.
He also pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor made no objections to bail being granted and Chief Magistrate McLennan then granted the man $75,000 bail.
The magistrate adjourned both matters until March 13th, when they will be heard at the Linden Magistrate’s Court.
