Under the law no parent can serve liquor to a child in any licensed place

Dear Editor,

There is a strange letter about adults watching a child drinking alcohol ‘Toddler drank Guiness’  at a bar (SN, January 5). It is unfortunate that the letter writer, Elroy Stephney did not give any details of what happened when the bartender and licence owner were reported to the police or to the Childcare and Protection Agency.

The Laws of Guyana are not implemented, but there are clear provisions that no parent can serve liquor to any child in any licensed place, and the Protection of Children Act also provides for the prosecution of adults who give liquor to children.

Yours faithfully,
