I thank George N Cave for his letter, ‘There is merit in learning Creolese at university level but also about Creolese’ (SN, March 24).
The very fact that both George N Cave and Alim Hosein are writing in English as opposed to Creolese suggests that they too have accepted English as our national language (as the vast majority of Guyanese who are our audience have) and not Creolese, which they are promoting.
It has been said by one blogger on SN’s website that Creolese is a bridging language.
What we need to focus on is learning the English language at a higher level, not promoting Creolese at university level.
Why are we promoting Creolese anyway? For cultural reasons? I, for one, am not a man in search of a culture.
Once again, I thank both Alim Hosein and George N Cave for their thoughts on learning Creolese at university level.
