Opposite caption

Dear Editor,

I was intrigued when I saw the caption in today’s (April 17) Stabroek News which reads the virtual opposite of the above caption, ie ‘Break and enter suspect gets 18 months for escape from police outpost’.

I do not think it takes much common sense to realize that any criminal-minded person, suspect or convicted, will try to escape if s/he is not carefully supervised. In a situation where the supervising official is as lax as was reported in the newspaper, it is that official who should be at least reprimanded, if not dealt with more condignly.

But, I must ask: What good can come out of our punishing the cat that drinks the milk which is left unattended?

Yours faithfully,
