Region Two RDC concerned at removal of some pedestrian crossings

Dear Editor,

The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Two calls on the Ministry of Public Infrastructure and other relevant authorities to consider restoring some Pedestrian Crossings that were removed along the Essequibo Coast Public Road.

The RDC is very disappointed that it was not consulted and provided with any details of this project that was reportedly done with public funds by the Ministry of Public Infrastructure.

One such pedestrian crossing that was removed, existed for several years in front of the popular Imam Bacchus Co. Ltd complex that has a school, supermarket, rice factory, library, play park etc. Shortly after this pedestrian crossing was removed there was a fatal accident involving a car and a pedestrian on the very site.

It is quite unfortunate that even though this matter was forwarded to the Ministry of Public Infrastructure; no response was provided by the Ministry to the RDC.

The RDC again seeks the Ministry of Public Infra-structure’s urgent intervention to take appropriate actions to address this road safety matter in the best interest of our residents.

Yours faithfully,

Devanand Ramdatt

Regional Chairman
