Notes for Windies cricket officials

Dear Editor,

The Japanese soccer team had a change of coach 71 days before the start of the world cup. It was considered sufficiently significant to be discussed during the Belgium v Japan game. West Indies suspended coach Simmonds 7 days before a tour for an offence for which a fine could have been imposed. The CEO of Cricket West Indies said he couldn’t understand why the absence of one man could be considered a significant issue. Why do West Indian cricket people not consider the management of human resources and preparation for international contests as critical to success? Unless that attitude changes dramatically we may be looking at the end of the game in our region.

Yours faithfully,

Romain Pitt
