High Commissioners, not Ambassadors

Dear Editor,

I have noticed in some sections of the press, and moreso on the radio, where people are referring to Guyana’s diplomats as Ambassador when referring to a representative to Commonwealth countries. Only yesterday morning, a radio announcer referred to our diplomat accredited to Canada as our Ambassador from Canada.

As far as I am aware, our diplomats to the Commonwealth of Nations are known as High Commissioners, and Ambassador is for all other foreign countries such as the U.S.A., Brazil etc. Are you aware of any changes?

Yours faithfully,

S.M.V Nasseer
