Career Fair and Medical Outreach held at Westminster

Dear Editor,

On Saturday 27 October, Ranks of “D” Division (West Demerara/East Bank Essequibo) in collaboration with the Throne Room Full Gospel International Church, hosted a Career Fair and Medical Outreach Programme in Westminster, La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara.

The event got started with the introduction of Commander “D” Division, Senior Superintendent Edmond Cooper, followed by a delightful dance by members of the church and a brief ‘Thank You’ by Pastor Marshall Lambert to the Commander and the G.P.F for coming onboard with the initiative and their

commitment to making the community safer for all.

Present at the event and at the Police Booth, were ranks from “D” Division, Traffic Headquarters, Public Relations Department and FAPC (Georgetown), where the ranks had on display, uniforms of the various departments and the various badges of ranks of the G.P.F, Breathalyzer Test machine, Speed Gun, Informational Posters and other appointments and equipment used by members of the Force. There was also a team of healthcare professionals from the Ministry of Public Health who provided free dental care and gave health tips to members of the community.

Commander E. Cooper during his address to those present noted that “crime and lawlessness is not the way forward, irrespective of the community and stigma, the youths and persons in the community can still make a meaningful contribution and it is for that reason the G.P.F strongly supports the initiative and any other initiative that would help to bring about positive changes in the community for the better”; the Division’s Chief Police, also took the opportunity to implore and urge persons who are involved in selling illicit drugs to youths in the community to desist from such because they are destroying the fabric of society while noting that the police have the long arm of the law behind them and would deal lawfully with any behaviour and conduct in the appropriate manner to ensure that citizens enjoy their peace and tranquility.

There were in excess of two hundred and fifty person in attendance; most of whom were youths of the Westminster Community.

Yours faithfully,

 Jairam Ramlakhan
