Sabanto apologies

Dear Editor,

The Ministry of Public Infrastructure would like to express its apologies to all passengers who were on board MV Sabanto, which experienced hydraulic failure on November 24, 2018.

The Ministry has been informed that on arrival at the Parika Stelling, the ramp for the MV Sabanto had malfunctioned. On inspection by the Transport and Harbours Mechanical Engineer and engine clerks, it was observed that the piston and pressure spring were dismantled in the hydraulic block, resulting in the halting of the ramp. The ramp is currently working as the problem has since been rectified.

The Ministry would also like to acknowledge all received complaints regarding the lack of information relayed to and communication with the passengers during this incident, state of the onboard vessel facilities and other issues experienced by passengers. Please rest assured that the Ministry has issued instructions to the necessary authorities to ensure regular inspections and continued upkeep of all offered facilities to passengers. The priority of passenger safety, comfort and welfare remains paramount to all operations under the purview of the Ministry.

Yours faithfully,

Krest Cummings
