GuySuCo must be applauded for moral stamina shown against SPU

Dear Editor,

Actually the organisation construct should be GuySuCo vs SPU. (SN December 17, 2018)

Apart from that quibble however, everyone with commonsense would rush to congratulate the moral stamina shown by GuySuCo who represents a sugar industry which has been of the most historic value to the economic and social life of this country.

It is against this heritage background that the current leadership of GuySuCo must steadfastly stand up to, and moreso, aggressively reject the illegal intrusions of an upstart agency.

The latter’s performance so far has tainted the image of the professionalism this Government should have expected. Complementarily, it has degraded the standards of behaviour in conducting business to the effect that of the initial prospect of 70 investors, 65 have deferred from dealing with the abject misconduct of such miscreants.

It behoves GuySuCo’s management to show its employees that it is worthy of its leadership. This experienced management team has no choice but to rebut the fledgling intruders. There is absolutely no room for compromise. It is so obviously incumbent for GuySuCo to stand tall for their employees to see and be able to applaud. They must not be let down, or GuySuCo would never recuperate from a profound loss of face, and indeed integrity.

To an attentive government this organisational contretemps should be but one more (unnecessary) embarrassment.

GuySuCo is a long established corporate entity. Any passing glance at history would reveal that its complexity of industry, education, health and community welfare can hardly effectively be managed by a group of most pretentious intruders.

The relevant Ministers of the Government must stand up to be counted – by coordinating an MOU that would put the SPU firmly in its place – far from GuySuCo.

This means however, that GuySuCo must first stay firmly in a place in which its employees can have faith.

Yours faithfully,

E.B. John
