Rain has final say in GCA competitions

Unexpected overnight showers forced the highly anticipated recommencement of the three tournaments run by the Georgetown Cricket Association to be shelved.

The two-day, first-division GISE/Star Party Rental/Trophy Stall match between the home team Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) and the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) failed to start as a result of soaking wet outfield.

However, the action should take place today at the same venue, weather permitting.

Similarly, at the Muslim youth Organisation (MYO) Ground, Woolford Avenue, the Noble House Seafood’s second-division showdown between Ace Warriors and the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) will  commence today, again weather permitting.

At the Gandhi Youth Organisation Ground, play looked likely but by lunch, the umpires had decided to abandon the 40-overs-a-side match between Everest and Transport.

Rain has played a persistent part in the lengthy delay of the tournaments which were expected to have crowned their respective champions since 2017.
