Petra Corona Futsal kicks off 24 February

The Third Annual Petra Organization Futsal Tournament was officially launched yesterday at the Top Brandz Distributors Headquarters, Broad Street.

Sponsored under the Corona Beer brand, the event commences on February 24th at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, with the grand finale slated for March 31st.

The opening rounds will witness 24 teams facing off in an initial group format [six groups of four teams], with the top two finishers in each group and the best four third place teams advancing to the knockout stage.  Troy Mendonca, Co-Director of the Petra Organization, highlighted the growth of the community teams which started ten years prior, declaring that sports is a vehicle for social cohesion.

Meanwhile, Marketing and Promotions Manager Marvin Wray stated that company is pleased to partner with the Petra Organization who is renowned for their ability to stage tournaments.

Similarly, Sales Manager Rishi Rampersaud said, “This year is focused on community development and this tournament will start that concept on the right track and patrons can look forward to more initiatives like this in the future”.

Winner of the event pockets $600,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third and fourth place finishers will collect $300,000, $150,000 and $75,000 each and the respective trophy.

Similarly, $40,000 will be awarded to each group winner, while $30,000, $20,000 and $10,000 will be presented to the second, third and fourth place group finishers, respectively.

On the individual side, a motor cycle will be awarded to the event’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), while a lucky spectator will also be the recipient of a motor cycle.
