Berbice Cricket Board hosting competition to pick U-17 squad

Despite the controversy surrounding the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), it is hosting an Inter-Zone Competition to select a 14-man squad ahead of the Inter-county under-17 tournament which is being  organised by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB).

While the tournament has been running for over a week, the upcoming weekend will see Western Berbice Zone taking on the New Amsterdam /Canje Zone at the Young Warriors Cricket Club Ground in Cumberland while the Port Mourant Community Centre Ground will see Upper Corentyne lads squaring up against their peers from Lower Corentyne.

The BCB which comprises Albion Cricket Club, Port Mourant Community Centre Cricket Club, Blairmont Community Centre Cricket Club, Upper Corentyne Cricket Association, Rose Hall Community Centre Cricket Club, Whim Cricket Club, Chesney Cricket Club, Western Berbice Cricket Association and Young Warriors Cricket Club have all joined together to ensure that the under 17 youths are well prepared for the county competition.

This comes in light of the recent success the Berbice team accomplished in the GCB/Dave’s West Indian Imports Inter County Under-15 tournament last week.

The clubs have also agreed to sponsor these games which will serve in the interest of cricket development in the county. Over the past few weeks, players born on or after September 1, 2001 have been called to trials in their respective areas in order for them to undergo the selection process.

The players will be divided into four zones and will play each other after which the final 14 will be selected.

All games are scheduled to start at 10:00 hrs.
