Softball finals shifted to Zeeburg this weekend

After months of delay, the Guyana Floodlight Cricket Association (GFSCA) has decided to move the finals of the Mike’s Pharmacy/Nauth Motor Spares/Trophy Stall senior softball tournament.

The finals will now take place this Sunday at the Zeeburg Sports Club Ground, West Coast Demerara, after initially being scheduled for the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), Queenstown, last Sunday. Due to inclement weather, the finals were postponed.

This was according to Wayne Jones, Organizing Secretary of the GFSCA on Wednesday.

Play will begin promptly at 09:30hrs, with the females clashing to see who will advance to the final later in the day, and take home the winners’ prize of $50,000 and a trophy first prize or the runner-up’s prize of $25,000 and a trophy.

On Pitch One, Trophy Stall Angels will go head to head with the Blue Divas, while Pitch Two will have Wellwoman facing 4R Lioness.

The men’s final will feature Wellman versus Regal Masters for the championship at 11:30hrs. Regal Masters will be looking to the likes of Mahase Chunilall and Eric Thomas for their big hitting abilities, while Laurie Singh and David Harper are deadly with the ball. However, Wellman could be dangerous should Mike Singh and Manoj Arjune find their rhythm.

Meanwhile, the big showdown will see Speedboat taking on Success in the Open Final for the $100,000 first prize, a trophy and bragging rights. The runners up will receive $25,000 and a trophy.

In addition to the team prizes, each player of the match will also receive $5000 and a trophy.

The tournament was initially scheduled to conclude last November, but the inclement weather had the better of the competition, forcing several postponements. Admission is free.
