LINCOLN, New Zealand, CMC – Half-centuries from Kycia Knight, Hayley Matthews and Chedean Nation powered West Indies Women to a seven-wicket victory over Canterbury Magicians in their latest warm-up match on the Tour of New Zealand.

Knight hit an unbeaten 70 to lead the way, Matthews scored 61 and Nation made 55, as the Windies Women successfully chased down 217 to seal the deal in the 34th over of the match at Bert Sutcliffe Oval.

Knight set things up for the visitors with an opening stand of 75 with Hayley Matthews before she and Nation kept the side on track with a third-wicket stand of 109 before the left-hander and her twin sister Kyshonna carried the side the rest of the way.

“Kycia and Hayley set the tone and pace in the Power Play, which gave us the start we needed, and it was backed up by Chedean Nation and Kyshonna Knight,” said team captain Stafanie Taylor.

“Our preparations for the ICC Women’s Championship are coming along as expected and we are ready for the challenge that I know that New Zealand is coming with.”

Earlier, leg-spinner Afy Fletcher grabbed 3-44 in her 10-over spell, as the Windies Women defied a top score of 98 from Evelyn Jones and 84 from Kate Ebrahim to restrict the home team to 216 for five in their 50 overs. The match was the final warm-up for the Windies Women before their second-round series in the ICC Women’s Championships against the New Zealand White Ferns, starting tomorrow.
