Success Masters defeated H.S Masters while Ariel Masters overcame Amazon Masters to book places in today’s final in the Guyana Softball Cricket League Republic Cup 2018.
Playing at the Malteenos Sports Club yesterday, in the 20 over-a-side contest, Success batted first, posted 136-6 from their alloted overs. M. Fung remained unbeaten in a belligerent display, on his way to 76. Fung smashed 10 boundaries, and ran well between the wickets, picking up eight twos. D. Manoj was the pick of the bowlers, snapping up 3-8 from his four overs.
In reply, H.S seemed to be coasting along but lost crucial wickets regularly. However, once N. Samlall, 19, and B. Batson, 17, departed, H.S, with three wickets in hand, still required 27 runs from 17. But Mustafa Azemulla with two wickets in the final over, would see them falling short by 16 runs. Mike Ifill was the top scorer with 25, while R. Baljit, Raymond Persaud and Azemulla picked up two wickets each.
Meanwhile, Amazon Masters were bowled out for 79 in 16.1 overs, as Rajhunanan Marine (36) and Rajesh Bisraj (13) were the only batsman to reach double figures, thanks to impressive spells from Ariel Masters frontline bowlers, Danraj Persaud (3-15) and Peter Persaud (3-25).
In reply, Ariel Masters raced to the target in 10.4 overs, with Richard Persaud top scoring with 25, and Mohammed Rafeek getting 20. Arjune deRoop was the main threat picking up 3-20 in just three overs.
The Over 40, Over 45 and Open finals will be played today at Malteenos with matches starting at 09:30h.
