Chein ‘Shaeed’ Gittens struck a boundary-studded 120 to see Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) post 300-6 before Timer Mohammed’s 6-21 saw MYO dismissing Diplomats for 82 on Sunday at the MYO ground, Woolford Avenue to secure a massive 218-run win in the New Building Society (NBS) 40-overs-a-side, second-division cricket competition.
Batting first on the relatively small ground, the match was reduced to 36 overs after early showers forced a late start.
When the match started, Abdool Kumar (3) fell to J. Stephens while Richard Latiff (22) and Vinesh Rampersaud (4) fell in quick succession to M. McCalmont. Gittens, though, continued his free scoring to bring up his 50 with a six. Wickets kept tumbling as Naveed Ali (26) and Imran Ayube (37) fell to R. Mohammed.
Gittens duly brought up his century but departed for 120 caught and bowled by O. Blair after hammering 15 fours and six sixes.
Amil Ali and Timer Mohammed continued the free scoring as MYO crossed the 300-run threshold with both batsmen unbeaten on 32 and 12 respectively.
McCalmont ended with 2-37 while Mohammed finished with 2-52.
In reply, Ali removed both openers, S. Critchlow (4) and Blair (0) before Timer Mohammed began to make inroads into the batting. In his first over, F. Azeez was run out for 14 while in his second over he had Stephens trapped leg before for one. With four consecutive maidens, Mohammed had strangled the run flow while dismissing D. Bobb (9) and S. Hughes (1).
Ali, bowling from the Albert Street end picked up his third wicket by removing R. Mohammed who failed to score while Mohammed picked up the last recognised batsman in S. Alleyne (0) in his penultimate over. He then produced a double-wicket, maiden in his final over which saw the departure of P. Williams (12) and J. Samson (13) and the end of the match in just 16 overs.
Mohammed ended with figures of 6-21 and Ali 3-26.
