Nets, Guardians secure hard-fought victories in GABA knockout c/ships

Nets and Plaisance Guardians secured hard-fought wins in the 1st and U23 Divisions respectively, when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Federation (GABA) Knockout Championship, continued on Monday.

Staged at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue, Nets downed Eagles 64-60. Y. Yisrael and Mortimer Williams top scored for the Mandela Avenue based unit with eight and six points apiece.

For the loser, Travis Belgrave netted 15 points. Trailing 47-43 at the end of the third period, Nets secured the come from behind win, recording 21 points while restricting Eagles to 13 points.

Prior to their dramatic win, Nets fell behind in the first period, as Eagles secured the lead 11-6. Nets marginally reduced the deficit in the second period, as they outscored Eagles 18-16 to enter the halftime break trailing at 27-24.

Eagles maintained their lead heading into the final period, outscoring Nets 20-19 in the pivotal third quarter. Meanwhile Plaisance Guardians grounded Eagles 76-68.

Terrence Daniels recorded a game high 25 points in the victory, while Anton Fileen and Delroy Ferdinand added eight and seven points respectively.

On the other side, Shamar Huntley tallied 19 points, while Patrice Agrippa and R. Richmond chipped in with 14 and 10 points correspondingly. The competition continues today at the same venue.
