Rain has final say in Round 2 of Demerara Inter Association U19 tourney

After an entertaining first round Monday, the four teams contesting the Demerara Inter-Association Under 19 tournament were forced to abandon play without a ball being bowled yesterday.

The Zeeburg Community Center ground, which was set to see West Demerara looking for their first win as they hosted East Bank were quashed at noon with the umpires calling it off due to a flooded outfield and persistent showers that began the night before.

Meanwhile, over at the Everest Cricket Club ground, Georgetown, who had hopes of defeating East Coast saw the rains easing at around 12:30h.

However, as the Under-19 boys gathered in the pavilion and passed the time eagerly waiting for play, match officials declared the field unsafe for the players with a few spots having water settling on it.

As it stands, East Bank defeated East Coast at Lusignan Community Center while West Demerara fell to Georgetown, both were five wicket wins.

According to information reaching this publication, it is unlikely that the round will be played later in the week but the third and final round will take place tomorrow at the Lusignan Community Centre and Everest Cricket Club grounds.
