Plaisance Guardians crowned GABA second-division champs

Plaisance Guardians were crowned the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) second division knockout champs after defeating Colts 67-60 to take and unbeatable 2-0 lead in their three-match series on Thursday.

Fresh off their successful campaign in the U23 tournament, the East Coast Demerara unit took a commanding 21-12 lead at the end of the first period at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.

Colts fought back in the second quarter, recording an impressive 25 points to their opponent’s eight points to take a 37-29 lead at halftime.

However, Guardians responded the pivotal third quarter, outscoring Colts 20-14 to narrow the deficit 49-51.

With all to play for Guardians completed the come-from-behind win as they out-hustled Colts 18-13 in the fourth quarter.

Anton Fileen top scored with 14 points while Travis Shepherd and Delroy Critchlow scored 11 points each.

For Colts, Eon Johnson and Quacey Lindo scored 12 points respectively, while Jamal Weekes added 11 points.
