Guyana’s Edghill wins St. Joseph Garden Open TT tournament

Chelsea Edghill

National Women’s Table Tennis champion Chelsea Edghill was in great form earlier this month when she won the women’s singles and the 2200 Open rated events at the St Joseph Gardens Open Table Tennis Championship.

Edghill, the number one seeded player in group five, began her overall triumph by defeating Pawel Gluchowski 3-0.

She, however, suffered a setback after dropping her second matchup against Falchuck Igor 1-3.

The Guyanese quickly rediscovered her range and downed Harrison Ngo in straight sets, 3-0 to maintain her number one seeding in that group.

Her quarterfinal showing produced much of the same as she continued her dominance to slam her way past Naresh Arcot 11-3, 11-9, 11-6 while defeating Donald Hinshaw, 3-2 in the semifinals, her toughest contest of the tournament.

Edghill then sealed the title by defeating Marty Stoner 3-1 to emerge the 2018 54th St Joseph Garden Open Table Tennis 2200 Rated champion.

Edghill who will miss the upcoming Commonwealth Games due to her academic commitments, followed up her sterling performance when she secured her second title of the championships winning the women’s singles championships by defeating Martina Kohatsu by a 3-0 margin in that final.
