Banks United wins circle tennis competition

Banks United all female circle tennis team were crowned champions of the National Sports Commission/ AL Sports circle tennis competition after defeating rivals Victory Chasers in the final Sunday evening at Thirst Park.

Under lights, Banks United won the toss and invited the visitors to bat and they responded with 255-8 from a mere 80 deliveries.

In reply, Banks United reached the required target with four wickets in hand and two deliveries to spare.

Victory Chasers were propelled by the efforts of Shameeza Abrams who blasted a top score of 86 that included 11 sixes. Abrams and Shavaun Henry added 70 runs before Henry was dismissed one run short of a half century.

In reply, the hosts benefited from half centuries by Player of the Match Roanna Charles (62) and Leticia Bellille (58) but it was a quick cameo of 43 from Simone Williams that pushed Banks over the line.

During the award ceremony, Abrams and Charles both received prizes for their efforts.

The organizers also expressed gratitude to Banks DIH who sponsored the tournament as well as provided a venue for the matches to be played while thanking the National Sports Commission for their part in helping to revive circle tennis in Guyana.
