VVR defeat Half Mile Bulls in final

Victory Valley Royals (VVR) were crowned the Malta Supreme ‘March Madness’ Basketball Champions downing Half Mile Bulls 86-72 Saturday at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) hardcourt, Linden.

Former national  U19  player and eventual Most Valuable Player (MVP) awardee Marlon Pollydore top scored with 30 points which included five three pointers.

Emerging talent Daniel Lee was the next best scorer with 10 points, while Alywn Rodney, Yannick Tappin and Akali Moore supported with nine, eight and six points respectively.

For Bulls, national shooting guard Terron Welch scored 13 points while Dillon Pellew contributed 10 points.

Adding seven, six and six points respectively were Kevin Easton, Emmanuel LaRose and Vibert Benjamin.

Royals seized control of the contest at the end of the first period at 17-12. Their lead was extended in the second quarter outscoring Bulls 23-18 to lead 40-30 at halftime.

Royals maintained their advantage in the low scoring third quarter, netting 13 points while restricting Bulls to 12 points to enter the final period leading 53-42.

The victory was then sealed as they outhustled Bulls 33-30. Meanwhile, Amelia’s Ward Jets crushed Retrieve Raiders 84-62 in the third place playoff.
