Lewis, Pollard unable to prevent Mumbai defeat

HYDERABAD, India, CMC – There were only minor roles of the West Indies pair of Evin Lewis and Kieron Pollard as their Mumbai Indians crashed to a narrow one-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League here Thursday.

Chasing 148 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, last man Billy Stanlake (5 not out) lashed a four off the final ball of the contest with scores tied, to hand the hosts a exciting win.

Sent in, Mumbai rallied to 147 for eight off 20 overs with opener Lewis top-scoring with 29 from 17 balls and Pollard and Suryakumar Yadav both chipping in with 28.

Lewis struck three fours and two sixes and put on 37 for the second wicket with Ishan Kishan (9) before he was third out in the seventh over, bowled missing a swing at medium pacer Saddarth Kaul (2-29).

Pollard, meanwhile, also belted three fours and two sixes in a 23-ball knock as he bolstered the innings in a 38-run fifth wicket partnership with Australian Ben Cutting (9).

However, he was dismissed at a crucial point in the 15th over, taken at deep cover off fast bowler Stanlake (2-42).

In reply, opener Shikhar Dhawan top-scored with 45 from 28 balls and Deepak Hooda got 32 from 25, as Sunrisers reached the final over requiring 11 runs for victory.  Hooda then blasted a six off the first delivery from Cutting to put the result virtually beyond doubt.
