Garnett spurs Hikers to back-to-back wins

Baraka Garnett produced match-winning performances in the U19 boys category of the Guyana Hockey Board’s Developmental outdoor league last weekend to help Hikers defeat Joseph Warriors and Old Fort 1-0 and 4-1 respectively.

Garnett’s 25th minute strike in the first sencounter enabled Hikers to needle Joseph Warriors. He then netted a hat trick of goals in the first half of the 40-minute affair that Old Fort never recovered from in the second encounter.

Meanwhile, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) based Pitbulls pounced on Saints Sonics to secure a 3-1 victory with goals from Samuel Woodroffe, Tariq Nelson and Gianni Carpenter.

Malique Ferreira was the lone scorer for Sonics.

Saints Splinters turned around the fortunes of their club to beat North Ruimveldt Multilateral 2-0 with Leroy Geer netting in the 16th and 19th minute.

In the female U19 matches, Bingo Spartans stunned St. Joseph 6-0 while Saints defeated GCC Hurricanes 5-0.

In the second division men’s category GCC the Sequel scored consecutive wins. Devin Hooper scored a hat trick while Philip Fernandes and Melroy Scotland scored two goals each to see their team register a 7-2 victory over Senior Saints.

The following day Fernandes scored twice in two minutes of the first half while Alan Fernandes supported with a goal in the 25th minute in a 3-2 defeat of Hikers Cadets whose goals came from Shamoore Garnett and Colonel Heywood in the 25th and 36th minutes respectively.

Jael Gaskin scored four goals and his teammates Jason Clarke, Rafal Robertson and Warren Williams chipped in with a goal each to see Old Fort defeat Saints U-19s 7-3.

Bounty GCC were the other winners in the final Men’s second division clash, beating Senior Saints 2-1.

In the Women’s Second Division, Pizza Hut GCC coasted to a 2-0 win over Old Fort with Corina Moller netting both goals while Saints upset Woodpecker Hikers 3-0. Webb pierced the Hikers’ defence in the 4th and 22nd minute while Tekeisha Deleon scored in the 13th minute.
