Parika stun Leguan in low-scoring thriller

Parika defeated Leguan by 10 runs in a low-scoring thriller at the Tuschen Ground, East Bank Essequibo in the latest round of the 2017/2018 Guyana Cricket Board/ Demerara Mutual Life Assurance Society Limited/ National Sports Commission/National Secondary School Cricket League

(GCB/DMLAS/NSC/NSSCL).

Parika won the toss and elected to bat but their batting line up could only manage 46 in 11.2 overs.

However, Leguan made heavy weather of the small target and were bundled out for36 in 12.2 overs of the 30-over contest.

No batsman from Parika reached double figures and in form all-rounder, Wazim Mohammed was the closest with nine.  Kamal Shaw claimed 5-23 from a mere 5.2 overs while Javal Shoye, the only other bowler of the innings picked up 4-22 in his six over spell.

There were 18 extras with 17 of them being wides.

In reply, Leguan struggled as Mohamed and Travis Christian strangled the top order early on. By the fifth over Leguan were struggling at 5-5.

Haresh Ragubeer was the only solid batsmen and was the eventual top scorer with 11.

Mohammed bagged 4-20 while Christian took 2-13.

Poor running contributed to the fall of three vital wickets.

Parika will now merge with Vergenoegen to play Leguan in a 50-over affair today at the same venue.
