Chase Academy destroys Covent Garden

Chase Academic Foundation (CAF) yesterday defeated Covent Garden Secondary School  by 58 runs  at the Everest Cricket Club ground Camp Road  to  retain the North Georgetown Zone title in the Guyana Cricket Board/Demerara Mutual Life Assurance Society/ National Sports Commission/National Secondary Schools Cricket League (GCB/DMLAS/NSC/NSSCL).

Winning the toss and electing to bowl in the 15 overs affair, CAF raced to 96-3 from their allotted overs before bowling out Covent Garden for 38 in 62 balls.

CAF were scheduled to play Christ Church Secondary but were given the title after Christ Church failed to show up while Covent Garden were booked to play Diamond Secondary in the first round of the East Bank Demerara Zone but Diamond also never showed up at the YMCA ground, Thomas Lands.

Despite the absence of West Indies youth player, Sachin Singh, CAF got off to a blazing start with Demerara Cricket Club wicketkeeper batsman, Garrick Persaud tearing into the inexperienced bowling line up. Persaud raced to 26 off 18 balls, with three sixes that smashed into the stands. His opening partner, Indergeet Nanan batted patiently for his top score of 27 that came from 40 balls but it Orlando Giddings blasting an unbeaten 19 after Dwain Dick fell without scoring and 21 extras that boosted CAF up to their total.

Covent Garden were off to a rocking start with Dick removing the opening pair in his first over before the spinners stifled the lineup. Tyrese Prescott and Giddings blew away the tail but CAF were sloppy in the field, giving away a lot of over throws. No batsman reached double figure with the top score being seven.

Giddings bagged 3-10 from 14 balls while Malique Smith and Dick collected 2-10 each from their three overs and e Prescott 2-8 from his two overs.
