Local rugby club Pepsi Hornets Sunday joined in the ongoing Carnival celebrations after they defeated the Yamaha Caribs in a thrilling final of the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) Carnival Sevens tournament at the National Park.

Hornets won 12-10 in a gripping final which earned them the first prize of  $US750.

Sevens is always a game of fine margins but the Hornets will give special thanks to the late missed conversion by Claudius Butts that would have tied the game in the final seconds.

After scoring a try to bring his side within two, Butts’ heroics was cancelled out after his kick which went just a few inches wide of the goal.

Nevertheless the runners did not go home empty handed as they secured the second place prize of $US450. A brace by Rickford Cummings and a conversion by Ryan Gonsalves made up the scoring for the victors. Richard Staglon and Butts were the names on the scoresheet for the Caribs.

The Panthers, the Guyana Defense Force and the Police Falcons were the other competing teams in the tournament which was sponsored by by Ansa McAl (STAG), Ramps Logistics and FireSide Grill ‘N’ Chill.
