…Henry encourages student athletes to raise the bar

Torch Lighting! Defending champion athletes from Upper Demerara/Kwakwani (District 10) lighting the torch following the opening ceremony of the 58th edition of the National Schools Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships which got underway yesterday.

Minister of Education, Nicolette Henry implored student athletes to raise the bar while competing with a spirit of fair play following yesterday’s colourful parade of the 15 districts for this year’s National Schools Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships.

Her appeals were made during the feature address at the opening ceremony of the 58th edition of the championships currently underway at the National Track and Field Centre.

Henry who also declared the annual Championships open, noted that the fixture is the “pinnacle of (the) schools sporting calendar” and the perfect event for spotting and harnessing the sporting talent the 592 has on offer.
