Nationals set for 100m finals today

The sprinting quartet of District 4 will be ones to watch in the final of the U-20 Boys 4x100m event after emphatically winning yesterday’s heat out of lane two.

Track and Field action in the 58th edition of the National Schools Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships continued yesterday at the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora.

Day Three yesterday was highlighted by the field athletes, most notably the long jumpers.

When the dust and the sand settled, Cobi-rhys Jones (District 3) and Virlyn Gibson (District 11) emerged respective winners of the Boys and Girls U-20 long jump events.

Jones disturbed the sand with a best leap of  6.43m, leading District 12’s Zion Gray (6.35m) and Ronardo Greene (6.31m) of District 10. Gibson bested District 10 rival, Abena Edwards (4.45m) while Canesha Cort (4.34m) of District 6 snared the bronze. 

Day Four starts today from 09:00hrs.

The day’s activities will be highlighted with the blue riband 100m races and the 800m finals.
