Eagles volleyball club on Sunday evening at the National Gymnasium, defeated the defending champions Young Achievers volleyball club to walk away with the Demerara Volleyball Association (DVA) male first Division title as they closed out the year on a winning note.

It was a five-set thriller which saw Eagles coming from behind to slam their way to a 3-2 win.

The first set of the final went to Eagles 25-19 before Achievers struck back to take the second set 27 – 25.

The usually well-oiled Achievers unit made it 2-1 when they took the third 25-23, but it was the eventual winners who showed grit as they took the final two sets 25-17 and 15-13 to walk away with the title.

Eagles defeated Castrol Strikers in straight sets 25-21, 25-16, 25-12 to book their spot in the final.

They joined Vanguard – the female first division champions – who won their title on Saturday evening by defeating Pakuri Warriors of St Cuthbert’s Mission in straight sets 25-19, 25-12, 25-16.
