Collapse of backboard threatens Linden basketball tourneys

The Linden Amateur Basketball Association [LABA] sanctioned year-end tournaments such as the ‘Fat’ Wayne Andries Memorial, an Under 21 and the Open championship could be in jeopardy, following the unfortunate crashing of one of the fiberglass backboards at the MSC Hard-Court.

This was revealed by President of LABA Lawrence Simon, who stated that he is hopeful that some form of immediate assistance will be rendered to alleviate the situation so that the tournaments can be staged.

Similarly, Chapman is also optimistic that a replacement fiberglass backboard can be found, so that the ‘Fat’ Wayne Andries Memorial tournament will get started on Saturday.

He further said that adjustments will have to be made to ensure the tournament commences and the players have the avenue to display their talents during this period.
