West Dem players trying out for Futsal fest

The West Demerara Football Association [WDFA], will commence their official player trials on Sunday, December  9th to select their squad for the impending Kashif and Shanghai coordinated inaugural ExxonMobil International Futsal Festival.

The trial will be held at the Pouderoyen Tarmac from 7:00am-10:00am. National goal-keeper and veteran shot-stopper Travis ‘Zoti’ Bess will lead a 24-member provisional squad that also includes Marvin Josiah, Stephon Jupiter, Kayode King, Dextroy Adams, Trevon Lythcott, Dwayne Lindie, Kacey John, Seon Hope, Dorville Stewart, Delon Lanferman, Gideon Payne, Kester Jacobs, Jamal Harvey, Chris Macey, Jermain Cumberbatch [GK], Ashley Harding, Sherwin Bernard [GK], Amoniki Buntin, Dwayne St. Kitts, Emmanuel Thomas, Trayon Bobb, Deon Terrence and Adami Hoyte.

Former National Player Delon Josiah is the Head-Coach that will administer the training camp, while Clement Browne will serve as his Assistant Coach. The manager of the team is Adrian Giddings.

The team will be whittled down to 12 shortly ahead of their participation in the tournament. 

The event which is slated to run December 27th-30th, will feature eight teams, three of which will come from Brazil, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. It will be contested in an initial group format.

A Sao Paulo Selection will represent Brazil, while Caledonia AIA and ZV All-Stars will play under the flag of Trinidad and Suriname respectively.

Guyana will be represented by a National Selection, while Linden, Georgetown, East Coast and West Demerara will field All-Star teams.

Winner of the event will pocket $1,200,000, the championship trophy and medals, while the runner-up and third-place finisher will cop $600,000 and $300,000 respectively and the corresponding accolades and medals. The fourth-placed unit will collect $100,000 and a trophy. A venue is yet to be announced for the event, with the National Park and Cliff Anderson Sports Hall being mooted as possible destinations
