Jaguars wrap up 125-run win over Volcanoes

Defending Champions, Guyana Jaguars marked their first round with a 125-run win over the Windward Island Volcanoes in the Cricket West Indies Regional Four-Day tournament yesterday at the Darren Sammy Stadium, St. Lucia.

Jaguars continued their dominance with Volcanoes resuming on 54-2, still trailing by 294 runs, eventually being dismissed for 220 in 76.3 overs with Clinton Pestano picking up two more wickets to add to his four wickets in the first innings and half century with the bat.

Taryck Garbiel and Kavem Hodge putting on 58 for the third wicket. Hodge carved five boundaries but was undone by left arm spinner, Veerasammy Permaul for 32 runs. Permaul finished on 3-56

Permaul also accounted for Ronald Cato three overs later but the spinner trapped Gabriel for 57 from 124 balls, accounting for seven boundaries.

Alick Athanaze and Dennis Smith resisted the Jaguars bowlers, putting on 88 before Smith played Christopher Barnwell into the hands of Permaul for a well played 38.

Athanaze carried on to finish with a top score of 64 not out consisting of five fours and two sixes as Romario Shepherd made light work of the lower order with the last five wickets falling in the space of 20 runs.
