Jamaul John cops senior cyclist of the year award

The Guyana Cycling News will host its fifth annual awards and party with Team Cocos ace, Jamaul John set to be crowned the senior cyclist of the year once again when they converge at the St, Stanislaus Auditorium on Saturday evening.

Like 2017, this year John set himself above the pack with a total of nine wins, more than any rider in this season and 226 points.

Among other riders in the category to be awarded are  John’s club mate, Hamza Eastman (100 points) and Evolution’s Paul De Nobrega (206 points), who both earned seven wins, National Road Race Champion, PSL Trojan’s Curtis Dey (178 points), PSL Trojan’s Romello Crawford (107 points) with four wins each and Evolution’s Christopher Griffith (100 points).

Deeraj Garbarran has been deemed the most improved cyclist of the year, winning his maiden race this season and consistently proving to be among the best, earning 82 points in the year.

Cocos as a team will also walk away with the veteran’s under 50 award which was won by Junior Niles who finished with an impressive 141 points. Jaikarran Sukhai (Carlton Wheelers) and  Warren “40” McKay (WS United) with 40 points each and Paul Cho-wee-nam of Team Alanis with 66 points will also be awarded in the category.

In the veteran’s over 50, Ian Jackson (69 points), Kennard Lovell (38 points) and Linden Blackman (33 points) will be awarded.

In the Juniors category, Briton John (133 points) outrode his competition to win the division while Ajay Gopilall (90 points) and Adealie Hodge (105 points) will be awarded for their efforts in the group.

David Hick will receive the award for under-16 rider of the year along with Claire Fraser Green who is the female cyclist of the year.
