Net-Rockers FC sent a stern warning to the field, crushing Silver Shattas 4-0, when the 6th Upper Demerara Football Association [UDFA] GT-Beer Football Championship, commenced on Sunday at the Mackenzie Sports Club [MSC] ground, Linden.
Watched by a sizable gathering, two goals on either side of halftime ensured that Net-Rockers walked away with the vital victory. Deshawn Joseph commenced the rout, as he found the back of the net in the 20th minute.
He was closely followed by Denzil Pryce, who etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 44th minute. The lopsided nature of the contest continued in the second half, with A. Layne making his presence felt in the 65th minute. The contest was then sealed, as J. Douglas got into the scoring act in the 83rd minute.
Meanwhile, league champion Eagles were held to a scoreless draw by newcomer Capital FC. The event resumes tomorrow at the same venue with another doubleheader.
In the opening match, Amelia’s Ward Panthers will oppose three-time champion Winners Connection from 19:00hrs, while Silver Shattas will take aim at Blueberry Hill at 21:00hrs.
Prior to the commencement of the matches, a march past was held featuring the competing teams.
The other participating teams are defending champion Botofago, Topp XX and High-Stars. The initial stage of the event will be contested in a round-robin format highlighted by two groups.
The top two teams from each section will advance to the semi-final round, with the winners competing in the eventual finale.
