Winners Connection and Silver Shattas secured identical 2-1 victories when the 6th GT Beer Football Championship continued on Wednesday at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground in Linden.
Winners Connection downed Amelia’s Ward Panthers with Marley Davidson opening the scoring for Winners Connection in the 24th minute. Racing down the centre of the field, Davidson lashed his effort past the opposing goalkeeper.
However, the score was equalised heading into the halftime interval as Akeem Caesar etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 33rd minute.
Nonetheless, Winners Connection recorded what proved to be the winning goal in the 56th minute as Jevon Figueira made his presence felt.
Meanwhile, Silver Shattas edged Blueberry Hill. Jonah Simon and Randy Pickering were on target for Silver Shattas. For the loser, Royston Fraser netted.
The event continues on Sunday with another double header. At 19:00hrs, Hi-Stars lock horns with Capital FC, while Topp XX matches skills with Amelia’s Ward Panthers from 21:00hrs.
