GDF, Buxton United secure wins

Defending champion Guyana Defence Force and Buxton United secured lopsided wins when the Guyana Football Federation/Stag Beer Super 16 Championship commenced on Friday at the Georgetown Football Club ground, Bourda.

The army unit out-flanked Essequibo/Pomeroon Football Association 3-1. Benjamin Opara bagged a double in the 49th and 71st minute, while Sherwin Caesar opened the scoring in the 27th minute.

For the loser, Randy DeJong netted in the 48th minute.  Meantime, Buxton United battered Rivers View 6-0. Ronaldo Fredericks registered a double in the 24th and 64th minute, while Dellon Wright recorded a brace in the 52nd and 88th minute.

Adding goals in the 15th and 75th minute were Paul Kingston and Tyrone Harper respectively. The event continues today at the same venue with another round of matches.

At 18:00hrs, Fruta Conquerors will lock horns with Berbice Football Association while the feature contest will pit Western Tigers against Guyana Police Force from 20:30hrs.
