The Regions’ best middleweight amateur boxer, Desmond Amsterdam has been busy recording victories in and out the ring.

After punching his way to the top podium step at the December 6-9 Caribbean Boxing Championships, Amsterdam was on Thursday promoted to Substantive Corporal by Chief of Staff, Patrick West.

The 26 year-old who has been competing with distinction since 2006, told this publication yesterday that 2018 has been a “blessed year” for him and he looks forward to further progress in the year ahead.

After punching his way to the top podium step at the recent Caribbean Boxing Championships, Desmond Amsterdam was on Thursday promoted to Substantive Corporal by Chief of Staff, Patrick West.

“As always, I want to go out there and achieve what’s best for me and my country. In 2019, I am confident that there would be more achievements and more progress than this year. “ Affectionately called ‘ammo’ by his peers, Amsterdam also sent some warning shots to the competition, putting them on notice that he will continue to improve and aims to dominate even more in 2019.

The fighting pride of the GDF then thanked his family, friends and coach, Terrence Poole for their continued support and West for acknowledging his exploits and rewarding him with the promotion.
