Monedderlust walloped Rosignol United while Paradise Invaders edged No.#5, in the 2nd Annual GT-Beer 8-a-side Football tournament on Friday at the All Saints ground, New Amsterdam.
Championship credentials were on display in front of a sizable crowd as West Coast Berbicians, Monedderlust, coasted to a 7-0 victory.
Artley Bailey commenced the demolition in the ninth minute with a thunderous strike from 24 yards out in the centre of the field which settled into the back of the net. It was the first of two conversions for Bailey with the second following in the 28th minute after Kevin Layne and Akeemo Watts made their respective presence felt.
A defender by trade, the towering Layne increased their advantage in the 10th minute, blasting a right-foot strike past the opposing shot-stopper from the top of the 18-yard area.
Watts further strengthened their grip on the contest as he etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 23rd minute. The shooting gallery continued five minutes later as Bailey fashioned his double.
It was the mirror image of his opening goal as the nippy forward unleashed a powerful effort from 22 yards out in the centre of the park which sailed into the roof of the net.
The carnage did not subside as Seon Watts tallied a quick-fire double in the space of three minutes.
His first came in the 45th minute, slotting home from inside the 18-yard box, after latching onto a cross.
The second goal came in the 48th minute after he received a pass within the penalty box and calmly placing his effort into the far corner.
Teron McDonald then completed the result one minute onward, cutting in from the right side and rifling a powerful effort into the top corner.
Meanwhile, Paradise needled No.#5 1-0. Aubrey Joseph netted the fixture’s only conversion in the 19th minute.
The dynamic Joseph, skipped past several challenges while racing into the penalty box, before uncorking a powerful shot past the opposing custodian. The tournament resumes on Boxing Day.
