Planting shrubs

A shrub can be described as a small to medium version of a tree. This woody perennial plant usually starts off with one main stem and branches off into multiple stems with some height.

Sometimes a shrub can have multiple stems growing from the bottom up and they do not grow as tall as trees.

Shrubs are important plants as they act as soil stabilizers, preventing water and soil erosion. They are also used as hedge fences.

Landscapers use them as a backdrop in landscaping, adding colour and fragrance to enhance the garden.

Some easy shrubs to plant include: Queen of Flowers, Mussaenda, Silver Dollar, Jasmine, Ixora, and Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. Do remember to trim and shape them when they reach the required height.

The heat is on, please remember to give your plants a good drink of water.

Until next week, Happy Gardening.
