Twenty-four mothers and their daughters will take the stage next Saturday to vie for three crowns in the three categories of the annual Mother and Daughter pageant to be held under the theme ‘Love Kaleidoscope’ at the National Cultural Centre.

The pageant, which has been the local calendar for over two decades, is organised by Supa Stylistics Promotions, which is headed by Dr Sulan Fung-Browne and her mother, Ingrid Fung.  A release from the organisers noted that from its inception, the pageant focused on the bond between mothers and their daughters which they believe is one of the reasons behind its success over the past two and half decades.

“This year’s programme will be packed with lots of entertainment by some of our best artistes and of course the audience will be dazzled by the creativity of the mothers and daughters as they compete in the junior, middle and senior categories of the show,” the release said.

Also, this year’s pageant will focus on the scourge of domestic violence in Guyana. A special tribute will be paid to Reona Payne, who was killed in April allegedly by her reputed husband Guyana Defence Force captain Orwain Sandy who is now before the courts charged with her murder.

“Reona was a past contestant of the Mother and Daughter pageant, so the tragedy of her demise has left us heartbroken, but strong to continue to raise awareness on the problem,” the organisers said in the release.
