Berbice Females completed the double for the sixth straight season with the addition of the GCB T20 title after winning the 50-overs format earlier in February.

Berbice women’s team secured the Guyana Cricket Board

Senior Female T20 Inter-County title for the sixth consecutive year with a six-wicket win over Demerara on Sunday at the Georgetown Cricket Club.

Berbice limited Demerara to 57-9 in their allotted overs before racing to 58-4 from just 12 overs.

West Indies seam trio, Erva Giddings, Tremayne Smartt and Subrina Munroe made the Demerara batters uncomfortable at the crease with pace and bounce.

Munroe accounted for Keisha Fraser while off-spinner, Sheneta Grimmond bagged the wicket of Lashanna Toussaint for 10 to reduce Demerara to 24-3.

Kaysia Schultz and skipper, Akaze Thompson provided a recuperating 37-run stand for the third wicket but with Schultz bowled by Plaffina Millington for just nine, Demerara collapsed.

Thompson soon fell to Smartt for a top score of 16 while Haseena Mohammed’s short stay was ended as Monroe flattened her stumps.

Left arm seamer, Giddings made light work of the lower order to end with 3-9 while  Munroe ended with 2-16. In the chase, openers, Melanie Henry and Mariam Samaroo fell cheaply to Schultz’s left-arm spin but it was Grimmond who returned with the bat to steer her side over the line with an unbeaten 31. Thompson also looked to halt Berbice’s march with the wickets of Giddings and Smartt.

Earlier, the Select U19 defeated Essequibo by 50 runs to finish second on the table.

After rain reduced the match to a seven-overs per side affair, the Select U19 took first strike, posting 79-3 from their allotted overs with Shabika Gajnabi and Mandy Mangru scoring 41 and 13 respectively. Essequibo were condemned to a win-less run in the tournament after stumbling to 29-1 from their quota.
